GFHS science teacher Bill Willis poses with Gregory W. Medina, father of Lance Corporal Brian Medina, and Sabrina M. Hill in front of a model of Gar-Field's Fallen Hero Memorial.

During this time when our soldiers, marines, sailors and airmen are being asked to give so much for our country, faculty members at GFHS want to give something back.We have created a memorial to 2002 graduates Brian Medina and David Ruhren, both killed in Iraq November and December 2004, and Richard Yates, killed in October 1969 in South Vietnam. We dedicated the Fallen Heroes Memorial on Thursday June 2, 2005 at 3:15pm. Students were invited to attend, as were members of the public. Soon there will be photos here of the ceremony and the finished memorial. The memorial will be on permanent display to honor our fallen students. We are still interested in any information about other Gar-Field military alumni who were killed in action, died as a result of hostile action or died during confinement as a POW since 1953, the year Gar-Field first opened up. If anyone has information on others, contact Gail Watson by emailing FallenHeroes@gar-field.org or by calling (703) 730-7000 to leave a message. Help us make sure NO ONE forgets the cost of freedom!
